Eyelid Surgery Patient 2

Lower eyelid fat removal and skin tuck

If the skin and tissue around your eyes are what you notice first about your eye area, that may also be what your friends and family see first as well. If this bothers you, you may consider corrective eyelid surgery.
The natural aging process can lead to skin laxity that causes the eyelids to become puffy or sag. You might also be genetically predisposed to have heavy or droopy eyelids that give you a tired or disinterested appearance. Eyelid lift plastic surgery can also restore your vision, if drooping lids interfere with your sight.
Plastic Surgeon Dr. Brandow is experienced helping his patients understand the eyelid lift surgery procedure and determining if eyelid surgery is right for them. Dr. Brandow consults with patients about eyelid surgery in both his Philadelphia and New Jersey plastic surgery offices.

Reasons You May Consider an Eyelid Lift Surgery Procedure

  • Excessive or wrinkled upper or lower eyelid skin
  • Excess upper eyelid skin that interferes with vision
  • Lack of or loss of natural upper eyelid crease
  • Puffy upper or lower eyelids

Desired Outcome of Eyelid Surgery

  • A more youthful, rested, alert appearance
  • Improved sight through a widening of the visual field
  • Softened wrinkle lines

How Dr. Brandow Performs Eyelid Surgery

  • Eyelid surgery is scheduled as an outpatient procedure
  • The eyelid lift surgery is performed under sedation and local or general anesthesia
  • For a combined upper and lower eyelid lift, Dr. Brandow makes careful incisions where the natural crease should be in the upper lids and below the lash line in the lower lids
  • For a lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Brandow makes incisions only on the inside the lower lids with no external incision or scar (transconjunctival blepharoplasty)
  • Dr. Brandow skillfully removes any excess fat and skin and closes the incisions

What to Expect After an Eyelid Surgery Procedure

  • All sutures are removed within 7-10 days
  • Initial mild discomfort is controlled with oral medication
  • Bruising and sensitivity to light last at least a week or two
  • Swelling progressively disappears over several weeks
  • Eye makeup can be worn soon after sutures are removed
  • Contact lenses can be worn when comfortable—usually within 3-7 days

Risks and Complications of Eyelid Surgery

The specific risks and the suitability of eyelid surgery for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are rare.

Other Cosmetic Procedures to Consider with Eyelid Surgery

Additional cosmetic procedures that would complement the renewed, youthful appearance of eyelid surgery include: Forehead Lift, Face Lift, a non-surgical Chemical Peel, or non-surgical Laser Skin Resurfacing.

Insurance Coverage of Eyelid Lift Surgery

With prior approval from your insurance company, upper eyelid lift surgery that is performed for the purpose of improving your field of vision may be covered. You should consult with your insurance company prior to scheduling a surgical procedure. Generally, eyelid surgery procedures are considered purely cosmetic. As such, the patient is responsible for payment.
